Group therapy
Let's Play & Grow
A relationship-focused play therapy group for children seven to nine. Six children, sixteen weeks, the same room each time. What a child does with other children, she does here too, in a space where someone is paying close attention and where what happens between them can be understood.
Why group
A child learns something among other children that no adult can explain.
Much of what shapes a child's relationships is beyond conversation. Holding back until she is invited. Taking up the whole room so no one can overlook her. Going along with whatever is asked to stay close. Being certain, somewhere underneath, that others wouldn't want her if they knew her. These patterns live between people and are hard to resolve through description. A group allows them to happen. Play is the language, and the room is where a child's way of being with others can emerge, be met, and gently worked through.
I don't teach skills upfront. I observe what unfolds and help children make sense of it, which is slower and more lasting.
What emerges
Connection, and the work of building it. Being understood, and feeling we hold a space, seen and heard. A sense of self, and the question of who she is among others. Big feelings, and the naming of them. Belonging, and having a place in the group.
The group
Format
In person at 1934 Divisadero Street, San Francisco. Sixteen weeks, a closed group of six.
Who it is for
Children seven to nine years old.
Fee
$150 per session. $100 for those with financial hardship.
Status
Now enrolling. Starting the week of October 12th.
The group is closed. All six children begin together, and no one joins once sessions are underway, which helps build trust between them. Screening is required, so families are invited to a brief call to confirm fit before we hold a spot. Parent check-ins happen outside of group throughout.
Spots are limited. If this sounds like it could be right for your child, reach out and we can arrange that call.
